The Progressive Safe System (DVS2)

In October 2024, the Direct Vision Standard (DVS), a permit to drive HGVs into Greater London, will undergo significant changes that all operators must be aware of. One of the key changes is the minimum star rating requirement, which will increase from one to three stars.  This adjustment signifies a higher emphasis on safety, particularly for vehicles that fall short of the star rating. To obtain a permit, these vehicles will now need to be equipped with extra safety equipment.

The Transition from Safe Permit to Progressive Safe System (PSS)

Previously, the permit for additional safety equipment for HGVs was referred to as a “safe permit.” However, starting in October 2024, it will be known as the “Progressive Safe System” (PSS). This transition is part of the broader effort to enhance safety standards. The PSS introduces the latest advancements in technology, which means that some operators may need to replace their existing equipment with new, more advanced technology.

We offer a fully inclusive service which is supply, mobile installation, and calibration of the system along with completing the TFL permit application providing the customer with all the paperwork required by TFL and a fully approved TFL DVS Permit valid until 28/10/2030.

We fit the Durite PSS system which is fully approved by TFL and consists of 3x AI cameras to the vehicle, one at the front looking down in the blind spot, one on the left looking down in the blind spot, and one on the left looking backwards, these 3 cameras are fully calibrated, the AI brains will monitor the required areas set out by TFL for humans be it pedestrians, cyclists, mopeds. You are fitted with a HD camera monitor in the cab which will automatically display whichever camera feed has detected a human; you also have a display on the n/s door pillar which notifies the driver should the system detect a human within the danger area. The system is fully calibrated and programed to eliminate false alarms from things such as street furniture which was the main issue with the old system.
